“Life is always a tightrope or a feather bed

Give me the tightrope.”

~ Edith Wharton

Gosh I dunno. Right now? It’s featherbed for me. I had a wonderful Thanksgiving. But all that food? Now I need to sleep it off. Featherbed please!

How nice to see Edith Wharton here on your first day of this theme. A truly incisive and courageous voice. You’ve quoted her well and captured her spirit beautifully.

Yes I love Edith Wharton. Incisive and courageous are great words for her. Very accurate. Oh to be able to have coffee with our giants today. Wouldn’t that be the best!

I think I would sit in the corner shyly and pretend for a long time that I wasn’t the guy who made the coffee date with her. I’m not the kind of person who could pass inside any of the drawing rooms in her novels, so I’d assume I was failing from the get-go. But who knows. Surely I’ve learned to act more confident than I am in board rooms and presidents’ offices these past couple of decades, so maybe I could do it.

Who else would you have coffee with? I’d also go for William Faulkner or Mark Twain or N. Scott Momaday or Luis Alberto Urrea or Louise Erdrich.

Mine would be Sherman Alexi (though that might be a barefoot jog with beer in hand through the woods), Paulo Coelho, Dr. Suess, Louise Erdrich, Haruki Mirakami, Lorrie Moore… and so many more. Gee whiz, lets just have a party. ; )
ps: I think you could do it!
