Lazy Brilliant Birds

Sometimes birds just need a pick me up. Sometimes, they just need a break—to have the option of first class instead of coach. I like these birds. They are my kind of birds. ; )

Today was a stunning day. Full of the smells of flowers and the promise of more air. I love good air. It’s the best thing! Have a great weekend!

Redhead Loves the Rabbit

Ah, what could be added? They are at home with one another. The rabbit? He’s open minded to a girlfriend with rubbery skin unlike what he’s accustomed to in his other (many) furry girlfriends. His instincts are happily retrained for such strange bond. And she couldn’t be happier with him all snug in her arms. He gets her to eat more vegetables and she shows him another side of ‘safe.’

Ah… what more could be added?

  • Grace

  • Nobility
  • Strength
  • Freedom
  • Power
  • This list applies to both of them. There is too much to say about this combination for a short post. However, the love, mutual respect and understanding in this duo has saved lives, benefited tribes and communities throughout history. It’s an image that is near and dear to my heart and definitely a part of this month’s theme Love & Character.

    Flying Circus

Not exactly the type of “flying circus” that held captive audiences as aviators performed circus acts in the 20’s. No, this circus appears to prefer the lifestyle it achieves in the air. Food is delivered by small planes, hang gliders and a hot air balloon every so often. Solar power is a cinch. They have a special delivery for a panel coming soon. They do miss the elephants and sometimes feel nostalgic for an audience. But in general this floating talent machine is a happy camper (flier).

    Sleepy Time Girl

This will be a very short story…

…about a girl who drank Sleepy Time tea and fell into a luxurious afternoon nap with her cats. The cats didn’t need herbal tea to become the lumps you see in this painting. Nope, not these cats.

By the way, this is the packaging label I want on my Sleepytime tea box. I would buy a lot of it and maybe take more much needed naps. ; )

    Exhausted Coffee Beans

Gouache & Watercolor Painting by Niya Christine. 20/365. Copyright 2013

    #20/365 Paintings 2013

Gosh, I’m no expert, but living inside the shade of the coffee tree — in cozy pod families — with the occasional balmy breeze — lifting the leaves to symphonic notes… sounds pretty nice to me. In fact, I wonder if Peet’s coffee invented it’s classical-music-atmosphere-brand from the lives of beans in trees?

One day everything changed for the beans. There were popping sounds and the drip of men’s sweat heavy on their little coffee bean bodies. Peace was broken. Then came the agonizing pull — their belly buttons, legs, arms, skins — tossed aside like lumps of clay into a basket on a dusty abandoned road. An old pirates ship as far as they were concerned. Drowning in coffee bean strangers, they couldn’t find their families. Everybody was screaming. Some yelled in Kona, others in Columbia. They suddenly wished they had buckled down and learned each other’s languages instead of being lazy beans in trees. Maybe they would’ve found their families if they had.

Dramatic? Maybe to us. But beans are durable and well tempered. After the initial trauma, they were just very sleepy. Exhausted from the separation anxiety from their tree homes and unable to fully process that life would be very different — they took a siesta.

Life is Tough When You Can’t Find the Coffee

Cafe interruptus. These birds have a bad case of “life is off to a rough start today.”

One bird ate the coffee, while the other pooped in it, two birds know gravity well enough to know that when one moves their beak they lose their cherished coffee, and another digs for it not knowing it’s on his back. It’s the bird that uses the coffee cup for a toilet that I really feel sorry for. The one with her dirty feet in the cup? Not so much. The belly dancer? Nah, he has some mad skills, I’m not worried. The meditator will lose his cup soon enough, but he will learn from the experience.

    Those birds…
