The Real McKoi

#306/365 Paintings
I tend towards abstract expressionism in my work. I grab the feeling and surf it, splashing color and often clumsily producing something. This time, I wanted to find the real Koi in today’s painting. Working from a photograph and guessing at how to serve up the effects through the materials I have on hand. I’m kind of jazzed about how it went. Koi are heavenly to paint. They give a lot in their motion and poses. A bit on the bovine side of existential wonder. I adore them. But you already knew that.
What I love about watching Koi is their gliding but seemingly purposeful movement. I think you captured that movement beautifully.
Thank you. Yes, they have this quiet bovine deliberation about them. So calming.
